Elaine
Armenta, from Bonney Lake, Washington began quilting in 1995. She
started of course, with patchwork quilts and made many of them.
Eventually that led her to the art form of landscape quilts, and she
has never looked back.
Art
quilting is a method of creating paintings with a fabric palette.
It is completely absorbing to start with a scene, whether the cloth is
speaking to you, or whether a photo of a beautiful landscape is
guiding you, and make it come alive before you. Patterns are
never used. Beginning with background cloth, each element of the
design is created by cutting fabric into shapes resembling natural
elements and layering them to create a picture. Much of the
artistic joy comes from finding a piece of fabric with just the right
pattern, color, or visual emotion. All the elements of good art,
such as color, perspective, and shading, come to play as the design
takes shape.
Once
the design is in place, free motion quilting is used with translucent
nylon thread to secure the fabric. This is also a great way to
further add design details such as branches, leaves, etc. This
process gives the quilt the dimensional effect that makes it truly
beautiful. All Elaine's quilts are made from the finest quality
cottons. Many of the fabrics used are hand dyed and painted.
Elaine does much of this herself. These give high quality and
unique effect to the scene. Each piece is then hand bound
and blocked to make sure it hangs beautifully on your wall.
Elaine has entered several of her works in county and state fairs and
has won many 1st place ribbons.
Each
piece of art work is truly an original, one of a kind, artistic
landscape quilt that you can enjoy for a lifetime!
